Evy Jokhova, Weighed down by stones

I dropped by Lily Brooke Gallery, London, to talk with sculptor and performance practitioner Eva Jokhova on her latest installation, Weighed down by stones for </cite>This is Tomorrow</cite>. Seeing the totemic pillar bristling with ultrasonic sensors, surrounded by mats and ceramic sherds, and hearing the staccato rhythms broadcast via bluetooth I wondered about how and where the line is drawn between archaeology and modernity.

The modern perception of time is neither strictly circular and repetitive, nor linear and teleological, but oscillates somewhere between the two, cut through all parts by discontinuities.
