Hayahisa Tomiyasu: TTP

for Paper Journal
A photograph of a man wearing a footbal kit sat alone on a table tennis table.

In May Hayahisa Tomiyasu was award the First Book Prize 2018 by Mack. It's an excellent book, a story made from the photographic acts of repetition and editing to build an emotional story of a table and a community out of a set of supposed coincidences.

The mythology of the camera is that of capturing coincidences—some photographers may even go as far as to fake the coincidence to make a better picture—the suggestion of chance makes a better story, the unexpected and surreal coincidences are those that are best remembered, and best told.

The photobook review, Hayahisa Tomiyasu: TTP, is up on Paper Journal.
